Skuld wants to learn how to ride a bicycle after admiring Belldandy riding hers, but she becomes frustrated by her repeated crashes and her big sister's reluctance to help her avoid them.
Summary
Skuld sees Belldandy return home from riding through Nekomi on her bicycle, having brought some ice cream for her. After Belldandy goes inside, Skuld curiously inspects Belldandy's bicycle and makes some mechanical observations of how it works. Belldandy returns with Keiichi, who asks Skuld if she wants to ride it. Skuld claims that she was only looking at it, but Urd comes along and says that she doesn't know how to ride a bicycle. Skuld doesn't believe Urd and bets the ice cream Belldandy brought for her that she can't ride a bicycle.
Unfortunately, Urd can ride a bicycle, but Skuld claims that she can as well. Urd bets that she can't, and that if she can't, she'll have to ride around Nekomi three times in a tricycle! Skuld fires back and says that after she learns how to ride a bicycle, she'll make her ride something too.
Belldandy and Keiichi promise to help Skuld how to learn a bicycle, and later on, she puts on some knee and elbow pads to start practicing. Keiichi offers to help her balance as she starts, but she goes off on her own. It turns out her knee and shoulder pads are devices that shoot out air to keep her balanced, but they don't work as intended and she crashes anyway.
Skuld admits that her devices still have bugs to be worked out and contemplates adding more devices to the bicycle, but Belldandy tells her that bicycles are meant to be ridden exactly as they are. Taking another go, Keiichi helps balance Skuld on the bike as she sets off, but she loses balance almost as soon as he lets go and falls again.
Skuld wonders why Belldandy didn't do anything to keep her from falling, but she doesn't think too much about it. However, as she repeatedly falls over, she realizes that her big sister is deliberately not helping her. She gets angry with what's happening and says that she quits and runs away. Keiichi asks Belldandy if they were being too hard on her, but Belldandy tells him that the reason Skuld can't use her powers yet is that she always relies on machines or other people and that, in her own words, "you always find your true path on the far side of suffering".
Skuld sits down along a canal in Nekomi with a simmering hatred of bikes when suddenly, a young boy riding a bike soars directly over her but crashes upon landing. Skuld runs over to him and asks if the bike, not him, is okay, and offers to tighten its chain since it looks loose. The boy asks Skuld if she likes bikes, but she says she hates them because of how much it hurts when they crash. He tells her that he loves the thrill of riding a bike because of the danger of crashing, but Skuld doesn't understand that.
Skuld lets herself get talked into getting trained to ride a bike by this boy, who stands on the pegs of her bike and helps to balance her as she rides. As Skuld slowly starts to enjoy riding, he suddenly jumps off the bike, allowing Skuld to ride a bicycle all by herself. She is incredibly happy that she managed to learn how to ride all by herself, but she realizes that is exactly what Belldandy wanted her to do. She tells the boy that she'll be borrowing his bicycle as she rides into town to find her big sister.
She struggles to ride up a hill in Nekomi but soon spots Belldandy looking for her on her bicycle. Belldandy is delighted to see that Skuld what Skuld has accomplished, and both of them ride back to return the boy's bike, and Belldandy tells Skuld that they'll get her a bicycle of her own tomorrow.
As for Skuld's bet with Urd, she challenges her big sister to ride a unicycle and say the words "I give up" a hundred times. Unfortunately, Urd can ride a unicycle, proving that there isn't anything she can't do.
